I had worked for a well know cabinet company here in Denver for several years called WM OHS and used the design and finishing I learned there for this Knotty Pine Kitchen in this Log Home.

The homeowner wanted a rustic look and feel to go along with the large logs and loved the color green. I first designed something for her on paper showing how the cabinets would look. I made plan views, front views and perspectives. Then used a 3D kitchen design program to show her how it would look giving her any angle she wanted to see it before it was made. She loved all the bump outs and bump ups I came up with and then asked if she could have a plate rack and light valances over the sink and stove. After the drawing were approved I made a Teal (blue/green) door sample with brown glazes. The doors have rub-through and a very light distressing on it with a brown glaze. Some of the molding are clear with brown glazes and very little crackle. She Said "Wow Joe, I didn't know that you could make something that beautiful. I love it".

I used a little bit of clear knotty pine on the toe kicks, crown freeze above the uppers and the light rail to give it some contrast. The crown freeze has some distressing and some crackle with brown glaze to set it apart from the rest of the kitchen and to match the natural pine logs and moldings. The kitchen also features dovetailed drawers and granite tops. After that kitchen I started working on several kitchens in Kiowa and Elbert.
